Our Code Of Ethics...
At Shuler Bloodhounds,
we are totally and completely dedicated to the bloodhound breed. We
are concerned with the future of the breed, as well as the breed's
current welfare. Our concerns, aims, objectives, and ethical
issues are not dictated by membership in any organization or breed
club, nor do we subscribe to certain views and policies because they
are "politically correct". We are not indebted to nor controlled by
any individuals or groups, but rather we strive to conduct ourselves
in an honest, ethical manner at all times, with the welfare and
future of our beloved breed uppermost in our minds. Therefore,
we abide by the following Code of Ethics:
- To produce quality and not
quantity.
- To only mate dogs when a definite
improvement in the breed can be realized, by realistically
considering type, soundness, temperament, health, and the
breed standard when planning matings.
- To breed only the number of puppies
that we can place in loving, caring, responsible homes, and
to not contribute to the current pet over-population
problem.
- To deal openly, fairly, and
honestly with our clients.
- To provide complete support to the
client…before, during, and after the sale.
- To educate others about our breed,
responsible dog ownership, and the pitfalls of irresponsible
breeding.
- To assume full responsibility for
all bloodhounds we produce.
- To refuse to
provide any bloodhound to any individual, group, or business
for the purpose of resale, nor to promote or condone
indiscriminate, irresponsible breeding practices.
- To provide a comprehensive written
contract and/or agreement with each transaction, stipulating
all conditions relative to that sale.
- To provide clients with current,
accurate records pertaining to the sale of every puppy,
including but not limited to a pedigree, medical records,
health examinations, bill of sale, contract, and the name,
address, and telephone number of our veterinarians.
Our Puppy Reservation Requirements...
- A $100.00 deposit is
required to have your name placed on a reservation list for a
puppy from an unborn, planned litter. This deposit is fully
refundable if we are unable to fill your requirements from the
litter, but will be forfeited if the client changes his mind and
does not complete the sale.
- Following the birth of
the puppies, those people on the reservation list will be
notified. An additional $100.00 is required within 15 days to
hold the puppy until it is 7 weeks of age, with the balance of
the total price due at this time.
- Puppies may be
picked-up after they reach 7 weeks of age, or shipped after they
reach 8 weeks of age. NOTE: Since we are located 100 miles from
Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, there will be a service
charge of $100.00 added to the price of all dogs shipped by air
cargo. This is in addition to the air cargo charges and
shipping kennel.
Our Sales Policies, Terms, and Conditions...
All dogs sold by Shuler Bloodhounds are sold
on a contract that must be signed by the purchaser/s. All of our
dogs will have registered names according to a central theme or
phrase that we select for the litter and will begin with the prefix
"Shuler's". Of course, clients get to select their own "call" name.
Basic contract terms are as follows:
Shuler
Bloodhounds will:
- Guarantee puppy to be in good
health at the time of delivery.
- Have all immunizations up to date.
- Provide a
medical record showing all immunizations, vaccines used,
dates of treatments, wormings, examinations, etc.
- Provide a schedule for future
immunizations, through rabies.
- Provide a bill of sale, pedigree,
and AKC "blue slip" or AKC registration certificate.
The Purchaser/s agree/s to:
- Have the
puppy examined by a veterinarian within 48 hours of delivery
and to notify the breeders immediately if any major problems
are found requiring a refund or return of the puppy.
- Provide a fenced yard, pen, or run
with adequate shelter from the elements. The dog is NEVER
to be allowed to roam or be staked out on a chain!
- Keep the dog
free of parasites, both internal and external; keep the
nails trimmed short; and to clean the ears regularly.
- Provide all
necessary medical care, keep all vaccinations current, and
to always feed a nutritious, wholesome diet. Dog is to be
kept on an approved heartworm preventative all year round.
- NOT use pet quality stock for
breeding purposes. AKC Limited
Registration will be required for all dogs placed as pets
and mantrailers, with spaying or neutering highly
recommended.
- Give Shuler Bloodhounds the first
chance to reacquire the animal in the event that it ever
becomes impossible for the purchaser/s to keep the animal.
The animal cannot be sold, traded, given away, destroyed, or
otherwise transferred without written permission from the
breeders.
- Confer with
the breeders when the animal is mature to determine whether
the animal should be bred or not. Breeders will choose the
stud for a bitch's first litter and will be entitled to stud
service without charge from males for any bitches they own,
co-own, or lease.
