One-On-One Training

Jack Shuler worked a trailing dog for law enforcement for 32 years.  He has worked hundreds of cases...everything from lost children and Alzheimer's victims to homicides, rapes, home invasions, armed robberies, and burglaries. He has assisted with the training of literally hundreds of dogs, of all breeds, all over the United States, Canada and Europe.

Jack has reluctantly decided to retire from instructing at training seminars for large groups of students, but he has consented to bringing his years of experience and expertise to a few select clients.

Through one-on-one training, a handler can receive more instruction in one day, than they would receive in a 3 or 4 day seminar where the instructor's time was divided between numerous participants. This unique opportunity to receive personal one-on-one instruction will be made available to only a limited number of clients.

For a training application form, or for additional information and pricing, email Jack at jack@jackshuler.com, or give us a call at 618-548-0303. You may also download the Training Application form in Microsoft Word ".doc" format by clicking here.

Evaluations

An Evaluation/Critique of the work of a handler/dog team will deliver an accurate appraisal of the work of the team.  Areas needing further training or development will be highlighted, and ways to correct deficiencies in the handler's training regimen will be addressed.  This Evaluation/Critique includes two evaluation trails, written critique, and an oral discussion on the work of the dog and handler.

For an Evaluation/Critique application form, or for additional information and cost, email Jack at jack@jackshuler.com, or give us a call at 618-548-0303.  You may also download the Evaluation/Critique Application form in Microsoft Word ".doc" format by clicking here.

Trailing Dog Certification

We are now offering certification for trailing dogs and handlers.  Since there are so many variables involved in the following of human scent, our certification test is not simply a one trail pass-fail test, but rather a comprehensive test of the handler's knowledge and understanding of scent theory, their handling abilities, their proficiency at accurately reading their dog, their dog's competency at successfully working trails in a variety of venues, and the dog's ID or indication at trails end.

The cost for the initial certification is $150.00, and is good for one year, from the date of testing.  Annual recertification of the same dog/handler team is $75.00.

To schedule a certification, or for additional information, email Jack at jack@jackshuler.com, or give us a call at 618-548-0303.  You may also download the Certification Application form in Microsoft Word ".doc" format by clicking here.

Consulting Service

Frequently a law enforcement agency is considering the addition of a trailing dog to their K-9 unit, but are at a loss for valid information concerning answers to the many questions with which they are confronted, such as:

  • We already have patrol K-9's. Why do we need a specialized trailing dog?
  • What are the advantages of a trailing dog to our agency?
  • What liabilities are we to be concerned with?
  • How do we recruit a qualified handler?
  • Where do we go for qualified and experienced training?
  • How much will the addition of a trailing dog cost our department?
  • Should we consider a trained dog, or should we start with a puppy?

By discussing the answers to these questions, as well as many others that you might have, in advance of the addition of a trailing dog to your K-9 program, you can avoid the pitfalls of entering this field blindly, insure the addition of a capable, credible asset to your force, and will save yourself lots of frustration, headaches, and money.

We can meet in person, or can discuss your situation over the telephone or by email. For additional information and cost, email Jack at jack@jackshuler.com, or give us a call at 618-548-0303.
